The problem with writing, especially when you have to squeeze it in between family and a full-time job, is that you always feel you’re against the clock. Books take a surprisingly long time to write, and a frustratingly longer time to edit, and during that process my head is spinning with story ideas that I’d love to develop. Some I can adapt and slip into whatever I’m writing at the time, though more often than not, this simply isn’t possible.
I’d love to work on each of those ideas but that would take time, and my adversary, the clock, is a mean fighter. Every now and again, I think I’ve got the clock staggering against the ropes, but then it parries a blow, gets a burst of energy and leaps back onto its feet.
This is what happened this weekend. I was planning a novel that would explore Rachel’s university days. The characters were fleshed out, and some great scenes had been drafted, but then I got an idea for something that I felt would be more interesting to write - and hopefully, that would mean more interesting to read.
The new idea is more of an adventure, but well within the realms of a HEA contemporary romance. The plot has been fleshed out and the writing will start as soon as I’ve written my Valentine’s Day card! :)
When I’m near release, probably in 8-10 weeks, I’ll mail out and see if anyone would be interested in being a beta reader. If you’re interested, please don’t hesitate to let me know in the meantime!!!
Right, time to write that card. Happy VD’s everyone! :)
