Gangster Gaz is Live! And some thoughts on censorship

It's always a relief to find a new book had been published. And The Taming of Gangster Gaz is now available on a variety of sites, including Amazon, which is always the tricky one.
Sad to say, not all of my books have gone through first time. When I first started writing erotica, I did so for fun, and had no concept of censorship. The early work was posted only on the two main British erotica sites: A1Adultebooks and AdulteBookShop, and at the time all works were accepted. Then I woke up to the wider market and the main player was obviously Amazon's kindle direct publishing (kdp). That's where I encountered the wonders of censorship for the first time.
Don't get me wrong - Amazon have been great! Sales via Amazon allowed me to become a professional writer. But publishing with them can be tricky if you write in my genre - ie gay erotica with BDSM content. The problem is lack of guidelines. If they reject a book, there is no reason given other than it falls outside the guidelines which when you refer to them, they actually say nothing. With trial and error I've come to learn what not to include, and rarely fail to get a book through nowadays. But some did fail in my first few months with kdp, which meant I had to resubmit with toned down versions. This caused some confusion as well as I had to resubmit under a new book name. An example was Brothers in Hell, which is one of my best selling books. On Amazon it is called Taken by the Vorinovs - same book, but slightly softened in a couple of scene.
Of course now the problem has expanded. My friends at those two British sites were forced recently to pull some of my books thanks to Paypal's decision to move into the censorship business. Incest appears to be the hot topic at the moment. Not something that I write about much as Jack Brighton, although I've penned a few incest stories under the name Fergie Boy in my early days. Even the title, like Brothers in Hell, can land you in trouble, by implying incest, which isn't the case in that book.
Thankfully the Paypal threat has gone for the time being, and I am eternally grateful to Mark Coker at Smashwords for standing up to them and the banks behind them who were forcing the issue. But I'm sure there will be others who come along and feel they should be the ones to decide what people can and cannot read - that freedom of expression is all very well as long as it adheres to their own personal views. I know that at any time, some, or all of my work could be withdrawn from sites because it is deemed offensive.
But the good news is that at present I can still write within some reasonable limitations. That Gangster Gaz can have his day and you can read it if you chose to.
Amazon - for kindle format
Smashwords - for all formats
