Like so many others, my ex-husband spoke rarely of the injuries that took him out of the war in Vietnam. He recently shared some memories of that final battle with our daughter as he fought the liver cancer that took him this month. John was a Navy medic assigned to a Marine unit.

His ashes will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
