Reading vs Spring
I have been finding my face buried in more seed and garden catalogs of late than in books. Although many parts of the country have been blasted by winter this year, our weather has been unnaturally mild without even our howling winds. (not that anyone is missing those)But, the mildness leads to spring fever and dreaming of tomatoes with taste and eating raspberries with everything. I have been drooling on the collection of garden catalogs and leaving my stack of "to be read" books to gather dust.
Yesterday the city building inspector came by to check on my new garden fence and gave it thumbs up. It is six feet tall with heavy posts and 2"X4" mesh. That's as tall as allowed in town. We do have plans to add temporary posts to the big posts and run wire around the top to add another couple of feet to the height. Now, some of you may be wondering "what the heck?" and others may be wishing for one of your own.
I have a severe deer problem. The town deer have my garden on their regular route and each year there are more of them. I. won't go into my whole rant--but--I enjoy watching them except for when they go into the garden and wreck the place. For those of you not blessed with the critters I will tell you there is a deer rule which says, only one bite per vegetable--never eat the whole tomato and if you don't want to eat any, just destroy the plant.
Happy springtime!
