I love that they prefer to film in harsh conditions rather than in front of green screen in a studio, it really makes a difference in the end.
I wouldn't say Iceland has very "harsh" conditions. It doesn't get that cold in Northwestern Europe's coastal regions, because of the ocean and the gulf stream (but it doesn't get very warm in the summer either). Many places near the coast of Iceland have temperatures above freezing even in the middle of the winter. I don't know how cold it is in the mountains, but it's probably usually around -3 to -10 degrees Celsius there during the winter, sometimes down to -20. Some places in Siberia has an average(!) winter temperature below -40. Now that's harsh.

Talked to a lady in Akureyri about the temperature drops and amounts of snowfall...she seemed pretty stunned about the idea of longer stretches of -25-30 Celcius temperatures and 70cm of crusted snow on the ground still at the beginning of April... :D
My brother is in Minnesota - not as exotic as Iceland or Finland but from all reports this year...on par for a brutal winter with days in a row at 0. Current is 9 and they are slated to get sleeted later. :)
Me too! I want to visit Iceland and I've always wanted to visit the Ice Hotel! And the Starks are my favorite family in your books!
ICELAND! It's at the top of my list of places I want to visit. I want to go at Midsummer sometime, and see the midnight sun. Could handle the winter for a couple of days (as people say, it seems not to drop below the 20s or 30s much in Reykjavik--I have it on my weather app), but would prefer to see it in summer. Someday!
I have a friend who studied abroad in Iceland last semester, and it wasn't as cold as she expected, but it was still uncomfortably cold!
