Goodbye Flashpoint

One of the best TV dramas on the air showed their final 2-part episode last night. I didn't realize it was going off the air until the last ten minutes when a caption came on jumping one year ahead. And I thought to myself, why would they do that? It was to explain where they all were a year following the horrific finale episode. Where bombs were going off all over the city, lots of chaos and death, near death situations of the main characters, until ending with the possible death of their squad leader. By jumping a year ahead they were able to show that he did survive but was disabled and retiring. Others had been promoted. There was a new baby, and new relationship. The last minute showed some of the five-year highlights of their seventy-five episodes.
Why? With all the crap that's on TV today, would they end a great show like that? I've only recently discovered Flashpoint, which originally began in 2008 in Canada during the writer's strike. The reason they're going off the air is because someone wants them to finish out on top. Admitting while the series is still at its creative apex, they've decided to end the series on a high note, and give fans the satisfaction of a fitting series conclusion. Hellooooo...who thought ending the series was going to satisfy us?
