Received word this morning that I had gotten a "great" review in Kirkus Reviews. I wasn't familiar with Kirkus before this, but everyone tell me they hate everything, so this was a nice surprise.
As I look through some of their reviews online, it looks like they live up to their reputations as tough critics. Dave Eggers' A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius received this gem as the opening sentence:
"It isn't." Yikes.
I'm realizing that this is one of the upsides to having Tourette's--because I'm always dealing with something unpleasant, it's a constant source of perspective. Good review? Bad review? Okay. But there are more important things to worry about, every 3-4 seconds.
Looks like the KR review of my book will be published on Jan. 24.
