This is a noble sentiment, but one must ask, who decides what is essential and non- essential?
Well, the Creeds would be a good place to start, given they're affirmed for the most part by the three major branches of Christianity. Looking across the four gospels and the New Testament to see which themes are most common is even better.
In the non-essentials: diversity
In all things: charity
