The most battered book on my shelf is definitely Bryce Courtenay's The Power of One. Fair enough, since it's my favourite book of all time. I don't remember where I bought it, but I do remember reading it breathlessly on a train (no idea where I was going or where I'd been, but I do remember being amazed that I was so fascinated by the boxing in the book.
