Sunday Snippet

This is coming from my horror WIP that is rough draft as they come at the moment.

Jessica said nothing and looked out the window thinking. Before she knew it a memory came to her when they were younger. Brian was about 10 her brother’s age as she just turned eight. She had been walking on the side of the house when she heard crying. She peeked through the fence and saw Brian hiding behind a bush. His long black curly hair fell in his tears soaked face.
“You okay Brian?” She asked in a whisper.
“I’m so scared,” he said but the voice seemed more kiddish like a five-year-old.
“Hold on,” she whispered. Jessica ran to the front and climbed over the lower part of the fence. She ran over and sat by him.
“What are you scared of?” She asked looking around. “Were you picked on? That jerk Josh’s around here picking on kids. That’s why I’m in the air today.”                “It’s not Josh,” he said.
“ What is it then Brian?” Millions of things swam through her head. Spiders, snakes, peas, Hornets were just to name a few.
“The dark man came again last night. He said he was taking me somewhere and it’ll be fun.” He grabbed her arm’s frightened eyes stared at her. “He isn't it fun. He does things.” The last he said in a whisper.
Her brows knitted together. “What things?”
He frantically shook his head as he said, “Can’t tell. Can’t tell. Can’t tell.”
She didn’t know what to say to him. So she did with her mom did when she was sad. She hugged them. “Shh, it’s okay.”
“Brian!” His mom shouted from the backyard. “Are you ready? It’s time to go.”
“No,” he said a blink of confused eyes as Jess. “What’s up Jess?” The confusion stayed on his face as he looked around. “Why are we here?”
“You are tell me about the dark man,” she replied. Her little head confused at what just happened. She wondered if Brian was acting, playing around. He did seem like a different person just a few seconds ago.
“Was I? Weird.” He stood up. “Well check you later. I’m going camping with the guys. Sucks your brother has the pox. He would have loved it.”
