A 2-week-old African elephant calf stands close by its mother, Mbali, at the Lowry Park Zoo on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, in Tampa, Fla. The calf is significant to the population because she introduces new DNA into the gene pool of elephants managed in North America.
