Paris Day 1 – the lost passport

Day 1 travel to Paris — The lost passport

Yes. You read that right. We were loaded to go to the airport and it was hard saying goodbye to Julie(Kitkat). I love that animal and don’t want her to think we don’t love her. And she has some eye thing going on the vet can’t figure out. But Aunt Kit the pet sitter is staying every night and Julie loves her. So do we. So…we were set. We were headed out. That’s when hell began….

We grabbed our paperwork and realized my brand new shiny passport was missing. It’s not in the folder with Diego’s. I hadn’t slept and either had he. We stayed up to account for the time change. Tired makes everything very very big and this was big anyway. I was in tears and ready to cancel. I ‘panic’ texted Donna Grant, who tried to calm me down. I ‘panic’ texted her more. She tried harder to calm me down. Diego refused to cancel. Donna told me we couldn’t cancel. We had 4 hours until our flight that leaves Denver and we were in Colorado Springs.

So we got into the car and found a Walgreens and got my photo done for a new passport. We then drove insanely fast to Denver to the Passport office. We begged for an emergency passport. They gave it to us/me. Again we drove insanely fast to the airport this time. Diego dropped me at the front door to get the bags checked. A bag runs over my foot and my shoe flies off. I hobbled after the man who is trying to help me, trying to get my shoe back on as he raced me to the gate. We got to the airpot gate 1 minute before luggage cut-off which is strict for international. One bag was over 5 pounds. If I didn’t find a solution it was another $200 bucks. The man who was helping me with baggage opened bags and pretty much fixed it for me. He was a sweetheart worth every dime of the large tip I gave him. Diego was parking the car and the counter lady had to see him before we are officially on our way. She ran with me to the door he comes in to meet him. Ran with me!

The airport crew was just so darn nice. Even the passport people were nice. Had they not been I might have melted down in a big way.

But we made it to the plane. I can’t believe we made it. We made it!
