“There’s a surprise waiting for you just beneath the surface” is an accurate statement for this interesting and wondrous tale. The story line is simple and is an easy read. It’s not overly detailed so your imagination gets a good workout. Quirk wastes no time throwing his readers right into the story, putting together a picture of an amazing undersea world.
Betrayals is narrative and you can really feel the emotions of “Augie” the main character and those of the surrounding characters. Some humor breaks up the tension and seriousness, Quirk never explains how exactly to “milk a whale”. The idea of a Water Arch creating a dry space for people to live in is something I hope to read about in more detail in the upcoming books.
I really enjoyed the magical element and was happy about how it blended with the story and wasn’t overpowering. The description of mythical sea creatures was detailed and sent my mind on an amazing adventure. It left me constantly wanting more.
The Betrayals of Grim’s Peak is not like Harry Potter at all, as it has been said. This book, even though a bit unrealistic can stand up on its own, with the dark twists Quirk slips in at the end. All in all it was an amazing experience full of wonder and great imagination. Id say a very successful start to a series. I look forward to and cannot wait for more.”
