Wouldn't leave it alone

“I invited Ryan for Christmas,” she said
sheepishly.

“Mom,” I said irritated.

I rolled my head back in frustration.  It was almost like she wouldn’t leave it
alone, like she was trying to fix things, make it be different.

“He doesn’t have anyone here.  We’re like family to him, he needed some
place to go,” she defended herself.

“Maybe I’ll stay home then,” I said, pouring
more wine into my glass.

“Morgan, stop it,” she said.

“You stop it,” I hissed at her.  “I’m trying to stay away from him and oh
whoops sorry, my Mom invites him for Christmas day.  Please tell me not for dinner too?”

She looked at me and I knew it would be the
whole day.

“God damn it Mom,” I said gloomily.

“I’m glad you like the tree,” she said.
