I'm currently putting together the second book of the Dark Deception series and I'm excited about what I have so far. I'm two thirds of the way through and, at this point, I think its even better than the first book of the trilogy.
Most of the events of the first book were taken from true incidences from eyewitness accounts but a lot of what happens in the second book is more theorized on what may have happened.
The second book has more third person perspective because of the fact that it's theorized on many parts. Some of the events were recorded and taken from evidence but the first book is taken directly from the diary of Samantha Ogeshi. Therefore, its written in first person perspective more often.
Personally, first person perspective is a challenge because the character really has to be likable enough for the reader to want to be inside of their thoughts. If the character is flat, below average or just unlikable, then it won't work. Samantha's character was kept as close to real life as possible and, in my opinion, she is someone that many people may be able to relate to.
