Yay, I'm part of a meme! I don't know who started it, but the gist is this: you answer a few questions about your next writing project and then tag five writers who then answer the questions, they tag five more, etc. It's all very "six degrees of separation."
Hugh Howey tagged
Sarra Cannon who tagged my Twitter wife
Magan Vernon who tagged me! This is the closest I've ever been to Hugh Howey, which is pretty freaking cool. He's sort of the Bono of indie publishing. *sigh* Okay, onto the questions!
What is the title of your next book?Deeper We Fall.
Where did the idea come from for the book? After writing My Favorite Mistake, I really wanted to write another New Adult book, but I didn't have any ideas. It's terrible, but I have no idea what the trigger was for this one. I just knew I wanted it to be a story about family and love and friendship and what you would do if you fell in love with the person who had ruined your life. It also has a girl who talks too much, lots of references to music, especially older music, Boo Radley, Yoda,
What genre does your book fall under? This is a New Adult/ Mature Young Adult book. It has language and drinking, drugs and scenes of sensuality that aren't really appropriate for the younger teen set :)
What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie?I'm still on the lookout for my perfect Lottie, but
AnnaSophia Robb is close. For Zack and Zan Parker, the search has been trickier. They're both half middle eastern (don't know exactly which country yet), and I can't find anyone who really fits. Maybe I'll try some models. I've pinned a few on the
Deeper We Fall Pinterest board. As far as the other characters go, I picture Lottie's brother Will as a less-good-looking Alex Pettyfer. Mostly because of the hair :) I still need visual inspiration for Katie, Trish, Stryker, and, of course, Lexie.
What is the one sentence synopsis of your book? When Lottie Anders finds out the truth about the accident that broke her best friend, she'll have to decide who she can trust and what she believes.Ugh, I suck at this stuff. Please forgive me.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?Self-published :)
How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?I'm still writing it. *curls up in a corner and cries* This book has not been easy to write. I tossed out 45,000 words and started over. I'm hoping to finish it next week. Of course, it's completely changed from my original idea, which is why I've had to re-write it so many times.
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?Probably Easy and Losing It. I like to try and walk the fine line between dark and serious and light and sweet. I hope it works out.
Who or what inspired you to write this book?I think it all comes down to love. For me anyway. I love to write about love, especially if it's not traditional boy-meets-girl kind of love. I'm also a bigger fan of internal conflict than external because I think it's so much more powerful and hard to overcome. The first scene I envisioned is Lottie and Zan's first kiss.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? If you don't like sibling banter, random pop culture references, records, steamy kisses, silent mysterious boys with secrets, powerful friendships, scenes about learning to drive a stick shift, pink, or awkwardness, this is not the book for you.
