There Are A Few Things I Miss

Today as I was out walking my two-miler in the raw, cold rain, I happened to think about those different things I've found myself missing. So, when I got back to house and fixed me a hot cup of tea, I decided to sit down and blog about the things I've missed. You might find something there or have something of your own to add.

1. Drive-in theaters. If you're lucky, you still have them on in your area. I've driven by them in different places, so they do still exist. Our old one is now a big box store.

2. Whip-poor-wills. I haven't heard one in a long time.

3. NYPD BLUE. Petty much ended my viewing the big three networks after it went off the air.

4. Wayside picnic areas. These bit the dust ages ago. Gas used to be cheap. Still miss them.

5. Borders bookstores. Yeah, I know it wasn't the best, but it was close, and I liked hanging out there. It's a golf store now, I believe.

6. Seeing the Milky Way & meteor showers. Too much city light pollution wipes my viewing them.

7. Full-service gas stations. I never used them, but I liked seeing them give somebody a job.

Marti We have come across the occasional wayside picnic area. There is still a drive in theatre near where we lived in Fulton, NY. We live in the boonies--still some light but we can see meteor showers. There are several full service gas stations in communities nearby. Marti

Hi Marti, I know there are drive-ins in Lexington and Front Royal (VA). Too far for us to drive to use. Glad to hear your waysides are still open. Hey, my collection of short stories came out on Kindle last week. Thanks for the comment, Ed

Michele bookloverforever I miss inexpensive vinyl music albums. the sound on digital is just not the same. I miss the hordes of children that existed for us babyboomers. there was never "no one to play with"...I miss children being able to play outside without supervision. I miss lost innocence.

Vinyl LPs ran what? $4.99 sounds about right. 45s went for 89 cents. Or maybe I'm thinking of a later time. Yeah, the parents have to walk their kids to the bus stop now.

NightAuditMan Perhaps this is unique to where I live in Ontario, but there are still several Drive-In's and Roadside Picnic Area's in my surrounding area.

I have to say that I miss the locally owned non-franchised movie theater though. Sadly big multi-screen places are driving them out of business.

We have a locally-owned cinema house doing battle with a franchised chain theater. Ticket prices at the locally owned is also considerably cheaper. Thanks for the comments, Azariphale.
