When Shadow and Bone first came out were you surprised by the outpouring of love for the Darkling? Or was it something you hoped for?

Hmm. I was mostly thrilled that people connected to one of my characters in that way. That definitely took me by surprise :) 

But my goal was to have him seduce the reader as he seduced Alina, so I wasn’t surprised in the “How the hullabaloo did that come to pass?!” way.
