Pondering Zombies

I don't really get zombies. I'm more of a ghost/space monster/Anne Rice-and-earlier vampire sort of person. Zombies are so messy. They are all rotten-looking and stinky and there are always too damn many of them to be believed. A whole town turns, except, inexplicably, our little group of heroes, all but two of whom are predictably disposable. How the hell do they find enough shotgun shells?
