For those of you who didn't get a chance to see my guest blog at The Story Behind the Book, I would like to share it with you again.
It’s a common question as to where my inspiration came from to write Absolute Obstruction and my answer is even more common. Absolute Obstruction is the second in the Absolute Series and while finishing up the first, it became quite clear that Michael and Rose’s story was not yet complete.
They continued to take centre stage in my mind, commanding my attention and all the while, insisting the second half of their life be brought to pass for the readers.
Now that doesn’t mean that it would automatically be published because the first one was. As a matter of fact, it had a hard time getting off the ground. My first submission of Absolute
Obstruction to the publishers was rejected and with some further research, I found out what it was they wanted me to do to make it marketable – it was time to go back to the drawing board and rethink some things.
As it was, many more edits were done as Michael and Rose clarified certain things that had not been clarified prior and that took another few months before I felt it was worthy to be resubmitted.
Now you would think that would be the end of it… it wasn’t. It seemed that the edits weren’t the only obstacles this poor manuscript had to face. Through a series of unforeseen circumstances it jumped from one desk to another and eventually fell through the cracks and it was only when I inquired about it, that it was resurrected. Unfortunately, that resurrection also landed the manuscript in a whirlwind of misunderstandings.
However, through a flurry of emails, it was all eventually put back in place and after that, it found me nail-biting for the next eight months before it was contracted for publication.
It’s not any easier getting published even after you have been, but perseverance and patience is the key. That’s what will get you published; well… it goes without saying you need a good story to go along with that.
Have a wonderful week.
