A Splendid Defiance

Something my previous blog doesn't mention is that, like my previous titles, I've revised parts of Defiance - in particular, those sequences towards the end of the book involving Justin and Abby. There are 2 or 3 new scenes here, intended to 'flesh out' the original and improve the fact-fiction balance.

Ros Martin only discovered Stella Riley in the past few weeks and have adored every one of her books that I could get hold of -four in all - am thrilled that Ms Riley plans to make all of them available as ebooks as the paperbacks can be difficult to source; The Parfait Knight and The Mesalliance were both wonderful; wallowing in A Splendid Defiance at the minute and hating the thought that I'm nearing the end of Justin and Abigail's story - lovely characterization and great historcal detail - when are the rest to follow?

imngrer While I understand the desire to update some of the novel, and the first half has in many respects become much stronger, I actually liked the way in which the other events of the Civil War were delivered in the original.

I also understand why the author decided to increase the interaction between Abby and Justin in the second half of the novel. It is just a shame that Abby became something of a 'wet blanket' this time round and that was not something I felt about the original.

We still have not heard whether we will at some point be getting the final unpublish Civil War novel.
