10th Anniversary Knitty Colorways

As one of the elements of our year of celebration, we decided we’d love to see what some of our favorite dyers would do when asked to create a colorway based on their ideas about Knitty. We absolutely loved the results. In alphabetical order, then, here they are!

Knitty’s Rainbow

Tina Newton, beloved dye mistress and queen of the universe at Blue Moon Fiber Arts, took the entirety of Knitty into consideration and created her vision of the rainbow of diversity that is Knitty. It made our heart melt a little to see Knitty’s Rainbow…what a beautiful idea.

Fractured Light beret and mitts by Kirsten Kapur

The clever Kirsten Kapur created two pieces to take advantage of this gorgeous colorway: a pair of mitts and a beret called Fractured Light. Brilliantly, this design both shows off and breaks up the colorway so it all sings. Thank you, Kirsten!

Kim calls this “50 Shades of Bazinga; or, When Your Stitch Count is Off, Your Skein is 2 Yards Shorter Than the Pattern, and the Yarn Gods Have Decided Now is the Time for a Needle Malfunction”. Really. Not kidding.

Our friend, Kim McBrien of indigodragonfly took the pitcher of my Grandma’s needles you’ll see on every page of Knitty (top left corner…click it sometime) as her inspiration, and came up with the insanely named 50 Shades of Bazinga; or, When Your Stitch Count is Off, Your Skein is 2 Yards Shorter Than the Pattern, and the Yarn Gods Have Decided Now is the Time for a Needle Malfunction. Or 50 Shades of Bazinga for short. With this riotous explosion of color, what did intrepid designer Carol Sulcoski come up with?

Little Purls of Wisdom socks by Carol Sulcoski

Not only did Carol come up with a great sock design that visually embodies our tagline, Little Purls of Wisdom, she finished the pattern while recovering from a very scary health issue that would have most people hiding under the bed. But Carol is more than a trooper, and we were honored to have her work in time to go live with the Surprise. Carol, you are awesome. (And we hear that she’s doing super well, and totally back to her regular life now. Yay!)

Lisa called this colorway “Deep Fall”

Lisa of Lisa Souza Knitwear and Dyeworks went right into our signature season for her inspiration: Deep Fall. Warm and cozy, full of the color of fall foliage and gardens shutting down for the year. We think she’s captured it perfectly. The colorway is shown above on her Polwarth Silk blend, and I feel like I could almost reach through the screen and squeeze the skein (or would, if I weren’t wool allergic .

With this beautiful yarn, beautiful designer Susanna IC created Beithe:

In her signature crescent style, a shawl that evokes warmth and coziness, and shows off the Deep Fall colorway in a most sumptuous manner. Bravo, you two!

We couldn’t have been more pleased with the results of this collaborative project. If you love these yarns, grab them while you can. They’re limited edition and we’re not sure how long any of them will be available!
