“We will see if you forgive him or not after I tell you. Sweetheart, Falcon scared you because he was sent here to do more than just scare you. Wait! Now I know that is scary but you have to understand what happened. There was a man named Caleb who took Falcon when he was very young, almost a newborn. He took him from his parents and he raised him as his own child. But, because he wasn’t his own child he treated him differently. He tried to change him and make him someone he wasn’t.”
“Why?”
“That, my dear, is something that I don’t know or understand. Not yet. Maybe one day, but honestly I hope I never understand Caleb, or any man who can send a child to, well, right now we are talking about Falcon and that is something I can understand. He has a family, an extremely large family called the Stryx, and the closest members of his family are called the Eyrie. He was told by Caleb that if he did not hurt you he would not get to be a part of that family anymore.”
“But he didn’t hurt me. He just scared me.”
“Exactly. So by not hurting you he, in fact, protected you from harm and lost his family because of it.”
“Is that why you asked him to stay?”
“I asked him to stay because he needed a home. My father, your grandfather— they always taught me to open the door and let someone in if they were truly in need, and you aren’t at risk anymore. Falcon couldn’t help what he did, he is so young and all he knew was...I could never make him go back to that. Not after your grandfather saved me from that life by being such an amazing dad.”
“Is he going to stay?”
“That is up to him and you. He refused to hurt you but I don’t trust him yet.”
“Should I trust him?”
“I don’t know. I do know that you should see if you can forgive him. He did a brave thing and gave up his family for you, a very large family, and one day I will explain more about them. But, for now let’s start with getting to know Falcon. All of us. Your father is the one who asked me to, and now I am asking you to try as well.”
“Okay. I will try to forgive him but I won’t trust him yet.”
