Strange Days
I was going to write a blog entry about Saints Oran and Columba. I've been reading lots of old, out-of-print books by Otta F. Swire about the legends of the Hebrides for no particular reason, other than I like her voice as an author and I like the stories she tells, and the tale of Oran and Columba got into my head. But then I was walking the dog last night and the rhythm of footsteps turned into

Dear Neil:The first book of yours I read was "Neverwhere" -- I've since passed that book, and the DVD of "Mirrormask" to many young friends. I do think that "American Gods" is your masterpiece (so far!) -- But for some reason, the above mentioned two works seem to resound most completely with the Young Adults I work with. Thank you so, so much, for providing a bridge between the "old farts" and the newest generation to approach adulthood.
P.S. - Have you ever read the old Gaelic song about the conversation between Columba and the wounded swan? It's one of the loveliest poems I've ever read.
