Simon & Schuster goes self-published?

According to the Christian Science Monitor yesterday, Simon and Schuster is teaming up with Author Solutions Inc. to create Archway Publishing, a publishing house which will focus on self-published books. At first glance, I’m thinking wait a minute, how can a publishing giant who is definitely not a self-publishing company cash in on the self-publishing craze?
