Raeden Zen’s stated goal is to pump new life into a sagging and sappy field. Read sparkly vampires aimed at teenage girls(my own interpretation of his aims). He’s a writer that delights in mixing genres, this one science fiction and a bit of horror. I think he succeeds quite admirably with PERDU, the first volume in the VAMPYRUS(REDIRE de VAMPYRUS) series.

He sets the stage nicely for the main story in two brief sections that introduce the main players: Zani Flowers, a young man found in a space capsule, with an American emblem, at two years of age, adopted by the Flowers family, then disappears at eighteen while suffering from a rare diseased that demands regular blood transfusions, to the main story of a serial killer in New York that kills only during a full moon, ten victims dying from exsanguination by femoral artery.

Valerie Green, a young journalist that knew Zani from birth, is a journalist working with an FBI agent on the case.

The author surprised me with the ending and the revelations that set the rest of the series I would presume.

If one is tired of vampires, I suggest you try this story out. I predict you will enjoy it as I did.
