Authors Self Rating
Take a walk around Goodreads and look at author's pages and their books.
Have they rated their own book?
I'm always at odds with this practice, one reason I haven't rated 'Will of the Alpha' yet. (despite ReChan's push that I do so)
As the author of a novel, do I have enough presence of mind to rate my own work without letting my own bias come through? Personally, I think this is a difficult thing to accomplish. We do, after all, love our 'children'.
I've seen authors who have rated their own works three stars or less. I think I have more respect for someone who is able to do this than I do for those that rate five.
After all, as writers, are we not our own worst critic? If this is the case, how can we honestly mark something a perfect score? Even famous authors, after having been edited time and time again, still make mistakes that are missed.
Now that said, I will mark other people's tales as five stars. Why? Because their tale craftmanship overwhelms any problems the story may have had. But for my own work, I personally will never (at this point anyway) mark it as a perfect five.
But again, that's just me.
