27 DAYS OF GIVING THANKS: HOME

I am a huge HGTV fan! I love Love It or List It, Property Brothers, Income Property, and of course House Hunters is my absolute favorite and I don't like to miss an episode. My attraction to this show first started when my husband and I were conducting our own house search. I fantasized about my dream home and what it would look like, but of course reality dictated the home we would buy. Our pockets did not include the homes that were in my fantasies so I quickly came back to earth. We found the home that was perfect for our family that allowed my husband to custom design it to our specifications. The house was move-in ready, but cosmetic upgrades were in order. Over the next five years we set out to design our home according to our dreams. Yet, when I watch House Hunters I always see something else that I just wish we could have.

Yesterday, on Praise 102.5 the DJ was at a local grocery store running a food campaign for the homeless and hungry. She featured a lady that she had met while at the grocery store. This lady was homeless, she and her children had relocated to the Atlanta area from Florida and were living out of their car. So many people reached out to help this lady that my heart was overjoyed at the outpouring of love. Her situation occurred as a result of a car accident. Something so simple completely turned her life upside down. And it made me think about how her story could easily be mine and anyone else's. I then began to think about how many times I've looked at HGTV and fell in love with some of those homes wishing we could afford something of that magnitude. And I realize I am so thankful with what God has blessed us with and what He has brought us through. I am not a material person but I do adore looking at beautiful homes. I love my home, and while we have definitely run into our share of issues throughout the years, I am so thankful for the home that God has blessed us with. I am so thankful to have a roof over our heads, running water, electricity, my children each having their own rooms, family gathering spaces in our home, and a safe place to rest their heads at night. And I'm more thankful for the family He has blessed us with to fill it with love and joy.
