What next?

I seriously think the military is messing with me, or at least my new bosses are.

I recently accepted a contract to be the E-Learning Coordinator at CFSATE. I wasn’t really sure what the job was when I applied, which was okay because apparently they weren’t quite certain about it either. Turns out what they wanted me to do is to become the technical expert/1st Tier Help Desk for a new program the Air Force is adopting called AFIILE. AFILLE is a massive software suit designed to create, collaborate, and disseminate course content, primarily through the means of on-line learning and computer based training. If you still don’t know what I’m talking about, don’t worry, hardly anyone else does either.

Oh, and here’s the catch: I basically had to learn it by using AFIILE. There are no courses, instructors, mentors, ect—yet. I suppose one I’ve mastered it, that will be my job.

Anyway, I guess my bosses decided that that wasn’t challenging enough, because I’ve recently been tasked to oversee...liaison with...take charge of?...have something to do with the Virtual Maintenance Trainer, with is a software program that provides a virtual aircraft that technicians can practice working on—running functional checks, swapping out radios, repairing cables and connectors—that sort of thing. Pretty nifty, actually.

Of course I’d never actually worked with seen the VMT before, but what the heck. I figured it was just something else I’d have to figure out for myself. Luckily, my bosses informed me that that wasn’t the case. There was a class starting Monday that I could sit in on to bring me up to speed.

The catch?: The class is in French.

Seriously, I think my bosses are in the back room laughing their asses off. Of course my problem is that I keep succeeding, which only begs the question, “How do they plan to up the ante?”
