How I decided to self-publish with ebooks

The publishing world is not always kind. It's rare to find a literary agent willing to take a chance on an unknown writer. It's even rarer to find a publisher willing to do the same.

It's frustrating having ONE person tell you your work "isn't right for them", or worse, not having them respond at all. As the rejection letters pile up, your confidence collapses.

Been there, done that.

I've been told countless times to self-publish. In most self-publishing endeavors, you're paying money to publish your work without a guarantee you'll make any profit. Kind of a turn off; for me anyway.

I continued to hope for that one "yes" out of dozens of "no's".

Recently, a good friend of mine shared an article about ebooks with me. In it, authors who started out self-publishing ebooks later went on to get literary agents and publishing contracts once their fan base grew.

I thought about this. A lot. I personally would rather hold an actual book in my hands and assumed the masses had the same view on this.

I was wrong.

Ebooks are growing in popularity by fantastical rates. There is no cost to self-publish ebooks, so there is so chance of money loss. Ebooks can be downloaded to kindles, nooks, ipads, various phone; even personal computers.

So I did it; I self-published an ebook.

I've got two available for purchase now on amazon.com and am working on getting a third.

The hardest and slowest part of the process is growing a fan base; getting my work and name out there. Endless self-promoting is involved. This is where I'm at now.
