Turns out, it's just not my thing

Self-publishing. It's a great way to get books out to the public. With a little time, you can learn most of what to do yourself. You can hire out what you need. Amazon, Smashwords and the others make it pretty easy to get your books or collections out to the eBook consumer. Createspace or Lulu or Lightningsource provide some nice ways to get books in print.
