Just got back from Galveston, and we had a great time.

There's still a lot of visible damage from hurricane Ike. Most of the old oak trees down Broadway are dead or dying, from being saturated with salt water during the flooding, and there are dead trees and crepe myrtles everywhere. Lots of stores and restaurants and clubs are still closed, and this was especially obvious in the Strand. (Hendley Market, my favorite store, was still closed.)
