Where is the Alligator in this Picture???

I took these pictures at the Cameron Park Zoo, and actually you can see this HUGE alligator, looked to be about 10 feet long, in the shadows cast by the overhanging trees over the green water.

But when you look at the picture, the mottled shadowing makes the alligator all but disappear. He has a massive head exposed though. Can you see it? It's out of the water. Look near the sandy bank.

Still can't see it? Look to the left of the white sandy bank.

Here's the rest of him hidden underwater. He doesn't look very big from this distance, but he was huge and his head massive. If he got a hold of you, he'd say, "Hmm, doesn't taste like fishy chicken at all to me." Interesting how his body was reflected so there's two of him! One of them is wicked enough!

And here's a much smaller alligator who was standing on his feet. Again, the windows reflected the alligator, making it appear there's another one behind him, so we get a shot of his back and his front in one picture. But I couldn't get his head at that angle.

Looking above, here's the rest of him! He's watching you watching him.

Anyone ready for a swim?

We used to swim in a Florida canal until we heard alligators had gotten people's dogs. We lived across the street from a jungle-like swamp and used to explore it. What were we thinking?

So when I wrote Savage Hunger and Connor was carrying Kathleen across the log and you couldn't see what was in the water, this was exactly what I was envisioning.

If you read Savage Hunger....is that what you envisioned? A log floating in the pound with big teeth and yellow rimmed eyes???

Mary Jo Terry, I haven't read Savage Hunger (yet) but last month at the beach in SC 5 of us (adults) were riding bikes on the island and there was a 7-8 foot gator sunning itself about 10 feet off the road. We treated it with great respect (moved over and away from it) as they can move SO fast. Thankfully it was not interested in us. I got a couple of quick pics on my phone and we left with a little extra adrenalin. I much prefer seeing them in the water than on land, and big ones like that I like to peer at from indoors :)

Terry Spear Ohmigosh, Mary Jo, I can't believe they have them there!!! Yeah, they can move really fast. They had like 3 incidents within a couple of weeks where people were attacked. One was a woman running on a trail. You just never think of stuff like that! Totally cool that you got pictures!! As you were leaving the scene! :) Wildlife can be fun--when it's safe for you to watch it! :)
