To Blog or not to Blog

I have no idea what I am doing, if you are looking for concise organized you have come to the wrong place. On the other hand if you are the type of person that enjoys train wrecks by all means grab some popcorn.

So, this being my very first blog I thought I would start at the beginning of my writing journey. I am a reader, a big reader and one random evening in Nov 2011 I was experiencing that sense of loss in having just completed a series. I had set a certain amount of time that evening aside to be reading and now I had an hour left and no book.

I have an ereader and immediately began scrolling through lists of books for a new one to read. For whatever reason nothing was grabbing my attention. Then a random thought hit me.

What if I wrote a book that I as a reader would want to read?

I have been known to have random thoughts like this, none based in any realm of reality. (What if I tried out for American Idol? Would my husband mind if I dated Gerard Butler? What if I could retile my own bathroom? are just some examples). I tend to horde notebooks because from time to time I love to write lists, but not regularly enough to actually be organized. I grabbed a notebook and wrote what I consider to be a mission statement of what I did not want my novel to be.

I wanted to write something that could happen. As much as I love to read them I was feeling burned out on the paranormal romances and romances where the male hunk was a rock star, actor, race car driver or other celebrity. I wanted to write about a guy I could picture myself bumping into at the grocery store.

I love books where you can feel that nervous anticipation of just meeting someone that you like and those first pulls of attraction. I also hate it when there is so much sexual tension built up in some books and then out of nowhere the characters are like let's kiss on the cheek and get married. I want a bit more action! It doesn't have to be graphic, just something...

I started writing that night, staying up later than I expected. I wrote until my hand felt ready to fall off. That is all for now, I will try and update here semi frequently to tell you what I learned along the way on my path of becoming a self published author.
