The Importance of Creative Spaces
Creative spaces invite artistic flow over and around the obstacles of life. 
Without table tops, nooks, and arts and craft rooms where we, creative eclectics, can put together what delights our eyes, our streams of artistry run dry.
This awareness revisited me yesterday when magical moments plumped up the pumpkins and crackled the candles I placed in a centerpiece on my dining room table.
Contentment swirled around dinner conversations with loved ones, and I felt full…
Full of dreams come true because of hard work and grace
Full of gratefulness for abundance in people far more than in possessions
Full of expectations for more good to come because I have a loving Heavenly Father who enjoys giving gifts
This morning, as I nestle into the couch’s corner and write, the dishwasher’s hum soothes the silence and invites a flow of words. I finally feel somewhat settled after a rigorous move. Paintings and wreathes grace the walls just in time for the weather’s turn to frosty nights and wind-swept sidewalks.
And then the artist within me tugs on my shirt tales and whines; “Finish setting up your art room so we can play.”
So I meander down the hallway into my new creative space. My eyes gaze the blank wall above my art table, and my mind concocts a dozen different configurations of how to organize this prime piece of possibility.
This is the place where I will grab paintbrushes and paints and prop up unfinished canvases so I can brood and imagine ideas into realities.
“The how-to-set-up my art supplies is the bane of my existence,” My sister’s words from our time together the other evenings return to me. We both gazed at the area and brainstormed ways I could organize.
And although the solution didn’t come to us then (the wall is blank this morning), I know I must press through with this important part of my art room set up.
For in this moment, I realize how essential creative spaces are for the creative eclectic who is pulled in so many different directions.
Whether a dining room table hosting a centerpiece, desk area where you can leave out your supplies, or an art room where you can surround yourself with tools for inspiration, creative spaces facilitate art exploration. Sure, they take an effort to assemble, but once in place, you will find yourself returning to your project repeatedly.
When art supplies remain packed away, those dustings of magical musings fall to the floor, only to be swept away with your hopes deferred.
So as I set up my creative space, I encourage you to design one of your own. It doesn’t have to be an entire room (which is heavenly, by the way). You can quarantine another area of your home. The important thing is that you set out your art supplies and leave spaces for propping up art in progress. This way you will gaze upon your newest venture every time you pass by. Ideas will pop and you’ll find yourself returning to work on your project.
