Believe it or not, I have many friends who are devout Christians and or Jews and or Muslims. The Muslims are quite interesting because I can converse in Farsi; and I have Persian friends who are Shiite Muslims, and Afghan friends who are Sunni Muslims. They are quite warm towards me despite the fact I do not share their faith. I like that.
The Persians are fascinating, because many are ironic Muslims, because they are of the opinion that Islam was imposed on them, so while they are nominally Muslim, they do not go to the Mosque, do not say their prayers, and eat what they like. That then makes me ask the question: How can they still consider themselves Muslim? They do not observe, do not believe, but still identify themselves as Muslim.
