How do you know if you are being deceived?

It’s not a joke. It’s not a pithy way to start a blog post. I genuinely want to know.

I see people on opposite sides of an issue who are sincerely convinced that they’re right. These are not issues that allow for compromise either. There is a right and a wrong side. Whichever side you believe, how do you know you’re not being deceived? Because, frankly, if two parties disagree on an issue of moral certainty, at least one party is wrong and, therefore, deceived. So, I ask again. How do you know if you are being deceived?

More importantly, how do you protect yourself from deception?
