Hallowe'en

It's October, which means it is the month of Horror... I have read many horror and thriller novels over the years and hope to read many more. I don't like the gore/slasher type but I love the psychological intrigue of Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House and Stephen King's The Shining If you can recommend novels along this vein I would greatly appreciate learning about them :)

All the best and have a safe and happy Hallowe'en (and yes, it should always have the apostrophe - it's one of my literary pet peeves)

Boo!

Margaret I also much prefer the "old" way of spelling the contraction for "All Hallow's Evening" which, of course, is the eve of All Saints' Day. Unfortunately, like so many other words, the commonly used version ("Halloween") has become the accepted and even preferred spelling in most dictionaries. But, I will not give in and will persist in spelling it the old-fashioned way - Hallowe'en!!! Trick or treat, everyone.
