Character Interview: Mona Hanna & Kalin from “Myriad”
Today, I am happy to welcome Kalin from Mona Hanna’s fantasy novella Myriad. Welcome to the blog!

Mia: What is the name of the book where we’ll find you? Can you tell us a little about it?
Kalin: I’m in a book called “Myriad,” which is book one in the “Prentor” series by Mona Hanna. Myriad is the name of the villain in the book, who has a plan to kill the Royal family of Prentor. He blames the King for the death of his wife and child many years before, but a group of witches and warlocks asks me to help them stop Myriad.
Mia: Tell us a little about yourself. Where do you fit into the story? What should we know about you?
Kalin: I’m eighteen, and recently left home. I haven’t used my magic in years, as my parents don’t approve of magic, and it has been outlawed in Prentor. One day I meet a man named Theodore, who invites me to join his group of warlocks and witches. He tells me I’m a special kind of warlock, and I have a unique ability to be able to track Myriad. I’m shocked at first, but the group starts to train me to use my magic again, and I become stronger. But, as for tracking Myriad, things don’t go how we expect.
Mia: What do you think of the author? Be honest. We won’t tell.
Kalin: Mona’s a terrible person. She’s knows I’m shy and frightened, but makes me fight Myriad and be exposed to so much danger. And what she makes me do near the end of the book! It’s awful! But she introduces me to Regina, a girl I fall in love with, so I suppose she’s not all bad. She did work very hard on the story, and I’m happy with how it turned out.
Mia: How do you feel about the story you’re in?
Kalin: I’m extremely grateful for the friends I make in this story, as I was very lonely before. I like getting to learn to use my magic again, which I forced myself not to use for years. I adore Regina, and how close we become. Regina and the others encourage and support me a lot. I like the story – it needed to happen how it does – but there’s a sadness to it. But I guess we can’t have extreme happiness without extreme sadness sometimes.
Mia: Do you like being a character in the book?
Kalin: I’m very shy, so I’m a bit overwhelmed that people are reading about me, seeing what’s in my head. Some people love fame, but I just want to be happy. But I’m pleased the story of Myriad gets told, as I think it’s important. I like that the readers will get to understand why Myriad became who he did. I’m pleased they see his past, and that he wasn’t always a bad person. He was good, once.
Mia: How do you see your future? Without giving anything away about the story, naturally.
Kalin: My future is very interesting. I’m in another book Mona plans on publishing, so I suppose that gives away a little about the first book. The second book I’m in has a great deal of danger, and I have to grow and learn so much! But there’s also joy, and romance. I’m a boy – I’m not supposed to be so soppy, but I can’t seem to help it with Regina…
Mia: What do you know about your author’s plans? Can we expect to see you in any future stories?
Kalin: Like I said above, I’m in one more story, and Mona tells me there will be at least one more after that. I know some wonderful things will happen in my life in the third story, but, knowing Mona, something bad is going to happen. But I won’t be something small I can deal with quickly – it will be BAD. There’ll be big changes in the lives of my friends, too. Those, I’m very happy about.
Mia: Let’s say they make a movie about this book. Who do you want to play you, and why?
Kalin: I discussed this with Mona, and we both have no idea. I’m tall and slender, with short dark hair and dark eyes, but I have a shy, reserved look about me. We can’t think of anyone who matches that. Maybe Mona’s readers can suggest someone? I’ll leave it up to them to decide.
