The Pile Up

Mind if we chat for just a minute?

I hope you don’t mind looking through a few of the pictures I took last year during my trip through Wyoming while we talk…

Ever feel like things are piling up.

Things that make your shoulders tighten up in knots and threaten the peace of your spirit.

It’s been like that lately. My sister came to visit with her beautiful daughters and I wanted to steal them away forever. This girl, my sister, has been my friend since before life. I just know it. When her cute little toes touch Vegas soil I put everything aside so we can spend time together. She’s a doll maker and clothing designer for American Girl Dolls. We brainstormed all kinds of ideas and I’ll keep you posted when her website is up and running. She has serious talent!

But as always, leaving her at the airport was a tearful endeavor. I’m always good until I’m driving away and thinking that it is possible we will not be face to face again for a year or more. It was two years this last time. And then…tears.

The next Sunday a dear friend you might know (Heather of WhipperBerry.com) started off on her adventure in Nebraska. I’ve known Heather for eight years, before WhipperBerry was even a twinkle in her eye. We had babies at the same time, we crocheted in my family room, created amazing things, threw fabulous parties, cried, laughed…Her move has been a tough transition.

You know just what I mean, don’t you? When things are changing all around you and nothing feels quite the same.

Like when you stand on the beach and the water rushes in – cool…tingling, giggling up your legs. And then it dashes back into the sea, scooping the sand from beneath your feet so that you feel a little off balance.

Our mortal surroundings are so much like sand rushing out from beneath our feet. Change is inevitable; some more challenging than others.

When I’m caught up like this, in so many changes, I remember things that matter most and the Rock that I’ve chosen to build my life on. You may call Him by a different name than I do, but I hope you recognize the truths we have in common. Building on sand is dangerous and confusing. Building on a rock takes work, persistence and focus. But when the floods rush in and try to pull your feet out from under you, there you stand, all firm and steadfast.

Change can be an enemy for me…but I’m learning that change also means hope, friendship, joy, and opportunities to serve. I’m embracing those truths and this one:

“And now…remember, remember that it is upon the arock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your bfoundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty cstorm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.”

What is your best tip for dealing with an onslaught of change?
