I’ve been tagged… The Look Challenge
Okay, so I've been tagged in this look challenge thing by Allie Burrow. The idea is to find the word LOOK in your current WIPs and post the paragraphs around the word (yes, pre-coffee it did take a little explaining but I've never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the box Just the most stubborn). You have to choose your favourite THREE, because everyone has to have three, then post and tag five author friends.
So...here we go with mine.
Blood Mate:
“ Forget any nonsense you’ve seen in films. He’s a killing machine. You cracked his skull? Great, when he wakes up, he’s going to be a pissed off killing machine. One I have to deal with. So congratulations, you pissed us both off. Now fuck off before I rip your head off instead of him.”Laughing inside, Darce risked cracking an eyelid open in time to see Wilson stumbling backwards, an expression of shock on his baby face as he put a sensible distance between himself and the vampire he’d just annoyed. Christ, the guy looked all of twelve. Where were the project getting them these days… Kindergarten?
“Fucking idiot,” the female blood groused to herself, her voice too low for the hovering human to hear as she bent down and hooked her hands under Darce’s arms again. He kept silent, his body lax as she dragged him across the dirt, grumbling about incompetent humans all the way.
She paused for a second, then hauled him upwards. Strong hands found purchase on his clothing as she manhandled him up and over onto a hard surface. He wasn’t a small man, so even though he knew she was a blood, he’d have been impressed at her strength. Would have been, if he weren’t face down on the metal bed of what a swift look told him was a troop transport, his cheek so close it was making out with the checker plate on the floor. Great, just great. He was all for getting new designs on his body to complement his current ink, but floor markings on his face weren’t his ideal.
“Bloody great lump. What the bloody hell do they feed you on?” she muttered again, grabbing his shoulders and flipping him over. He landed back on the floor with an ‘ooomph’ as the air was dislodged from his lungs.
He opened his eyes as she grabbed his wrists and slapped cold metal bands around them. The next second they were pulled up over his head. He looked up as she locked them into place on the side of the cabin.
“Oh, handcuffs. Kinky,” he drawled, making her jump as she realised he was awake. “If you wanted to get down and dirty sweetheart, all you had to do was ask.”
Chasing Cyn / Virgo (Zodiac Cyborgs)
"Fucking bastard!" His voice was low, full of enmity. He knew what had happened.Doc Black had happened. A fanciful name for the surgeon Quinn had been tracking across the quadrant for nearly a year. Black was good, possibly the best out there but the guy was a fucking paranoid weasel. Like a ghost, reports of him were everywhere but he was impossible to pin down. Every time they tried, he was gone before they could get anywhere near.
"Boss," Valdez' voice interrupted his solitude again. "Just thought you might want to know. The Starflame left the system a few minutes ago. We've altered the registry so according to the database, they're headed out to the pleasure resorts of Isarian Prime. They're off the grid."
Quinn nodded, even though the guy couldn't see him. "Good. The last thing we want is the Templeton's finding Jason's ex-wife. Particularly as the guy's rep is pretty much trashed at the moment."
Although Quinn had never had that much to do with Jason himself, the Templeton clan were a pain in the ass, spread through the upper echelons of the fleet and high society like a bad rash. Politicians, businessmen, fleet admirals...all the connections made Quinn a little wiggy. Especially when they owned Naevian Automations, the company responsible for the new wave of combat androids they were trying to push into service. There was no way, with such high links in the fleet, that that contract wasn't the result of a few back-handers in the right place.
Templeton's never quit, so the fact one of their number had been brought down by his ex-wife was bound to be a bone of contention. Poor woman would be looking over her shoulder for the rest of her life.
"Agreed. Want me to throw up a few smoke screens for her?"
Quinn smiled. Valdez was already on the same train of thought. He knew he'd picked the young heavy-worlder for a reason, and it wasn't just because he was the fastest hacker Quinn had ever seen.
"Yeah, do that. But you do it personally, don't delegate and don't leave a trace in the system."
Gray's Girl
“So now Frankie’s convinced that she’s too old, and fat.” He sighed, ran a hand through the short spikes of his dark hair. “You know what women are like, mate. Doesn’t matter what you tell them; they’ll still be convinced that they look like the back end of a bus.”
Gray nodded in response, a sympathetic expression on his face. He knew how delicate a woman’s self-confidence was and Damon was right. It didn’t matter what anyone said; it was how a woman felt inside. Fists clenching and unclenching at his side, he made plans to track down her twat of an ex and elicit some payback of a violent type. See if the guy could still pull a model after that.
“So don’t hurt her, okay?” Damon’s expression was forbidding. “Or me and you are gonna being having words, clear?”
“Crystal, mate.” Gray nodded. Those words would be of the physical type but he totally understood that. The Cross siblings had always looked out for each other and he’d do exactly the same if he had sisters.
Damon nodded, and a measure of calm and composure returned to his expression. “Good. We cool? Sorry about the thing with the wall.”
“Yeah. We’re good. Don’t worry about it; I’d have done the same.” He waved a dismissive hand toward the wall as he took a step back toward the urinals. Then he paused, looking over his shoulder as Damon reached the door.
“One last thing. I won’t hurt her, but if she gives me the slightest interest that’s she’s interested…then she’s mine.”
