Unbroken

Today when I arose, I found my Bible lying open on my laptop. No, it wasn’t a supernatural kind of thing. It was a husband thing. He has been doing this for the past few days.

I haven’t asked him about it. Maybe I should. And I’m not sure if he wants me to read where he was reading…but, I have been.

So, today I started reading about the triumphant entry, you know the day when Jesus rides into the Jerusalem on the back of donkey.

Here is the scripture in Mark chapter 11 verses 1-7: As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 3 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’”

4 They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, 5 some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” 6 They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 7 When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it.

Yes, I realize we have all read these verses over and over. We hear them every Easter. We see this enacted in plays. It’s a common enough scripture. But something hit me today as I was reading it.

The donkey was unbroken. He’d never been sat upon. He’d never had a cowboy sit on his back long enough through his bucking to finally bring him to submission.

I got to thinking about this. How much are we like that donkey? When he calls us, he takes us as we are and makes something useful of us. He gives us a job to do for His glory, regardless of our talents. Most of the time, it’s in spite of them.

I love that Jesus uses an unbroken donkey to carry the king of kings on his back. I love that Jesus uses me, a woman who does not deserve mercy yet finds her worthy enough for both mercy and grace.

If you have been questioning your worth lately, know this. God has called you and set you apart to serve him as only you can do. He counts you worthy of grace and mercy and loves you more than there are stars in the sky.

Thank you for taking the time to grow with me this Wednesday!

Blessings,
