About the Writer

1. What five words describe you?

determined, focused, dedicated, kind, busy

2. What was the first story you ever wrote? I mean the really bad one we all have that you’re trying to hide in the back of closet now that you’re published?

My first stories were when I was about 3, dictating them to my mother. Then when I was about 10, I wrote a western called ‘The Strawberry Roan’- about 20 pages long about a wild horse. At 16, I finished ‘The Night Warriors’ about teenage crime fighters with elements of romance, paranormal, and everything else I could manage to throw in. It was mechanically sound, with good grammar, sentence structure, dialog, etc., but the story was haphazard. After that, there were lots of short stories, another novel, a husband, a child, a career, and beginnings of dozens of other novels.

A few years ago, I had to stop working because of illness, and when I recovered enough to form coherent thoughts, I turned back to writing. I wrote the first of my weredragon/vampire romances. That’s the one sitting and hiding on my hard drive. It took forever, but helped me remember all the things I’d forgotten about writing over the years. More importantly, it helped me establish a steady habit of writing every single day, even when I was too sick to get out of bed.

3. What inspires you?

Absolutely everything. Bits of overheard conversation. A person walking down the street. A dream. A storm. A phrase in something I read. A song. I keep a file of story ideas – some character sketches, plot outlines, ideas for subplots, snippets of dialog, and so on. That file is now well over 100 pages.

4. What distracts you?

Like most writers, the internet is a terrible temptation. I can easily spend a whole day reading blogs, on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, GooglePlus… And all those writing forums – I can fall in there for days!

5. What’s your favorite story? This can be specific, as in a particular book or even story-driven movie, or general, like “I’m a sucker for a hero looking for redemption story.”

JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood stories are my absolute favorites. They have everything – compelling characters with heart-wrenching stories, Heroes the reader can love, Heroines the reader would love to be, and stories that drag you along by the throat. There are tons of stories I love, and I find new ones all the time, but for me, JR Ward’s writing epitomizes excellent story-telling.

1. Tell us about your currently available titles.

So far, I’ve only released “Tight Spaces: Double Dare Club #1″, an Erotic Romance novella. On November 1, I’m releasing “Safe Heart: Blood Dragon #1″, the first of my Paranormal Romances.

2. What’s your favorite part about writing these stories?

I love getting to know the characters, and sharing their stories. Learning about their lives, and loves, what makes them the way they are – that’s all so interesting, I can get lost in my stories for days. It’s a running joke with my family, don’t bother talking to mom if her laptop is on, she won’t remember it later! Even my grandsons, at 18m, 3y & 4y, have figured it out. They climb up beside me, put their heads between me and the screen and say “Look at me, Granny, and listen.” LOL.

3. What would your characters say to you? Be honest!

Hmmm, some would tell me to mind my own business – they aren’t all thrilled to share their stories. A few would tell me to hurry up and get to the good part. Several would gripe about scenes ending too quickly – particularly sex scenes, LOL.

Kiellen, from “Safe Heart” did a lot of griping while I wrote because I didn’t let him just outright kill the bad guys, while Jaden, his mate, was rather irate that I didn’t let them have sex as soon as the idea occurred to her. But she had been through a horrible ordeal, very traumatic, and I thought it better that they wait, and Kiellen agreed with me.

4. Who would play your favorite character if they made a movie of their story?

Oh, wow, you don’t know how difficult that question is for me to answer! I don’t watch TV very much, and there are very few movies that I watch all the way through. I rarely recognize actors from one role to the next, and there are even fewer that I would recognize if I fell over them on the street. I’ll just have to leave that one up to the readers!

5. Do you have any projects currently in the works you want to talk about?

Well, let’s see. There’s the “Blood Dragon” series with weredragons and daywalking vampires. Book #1, “Safe Heart” is slated to release November 1. Three more are in various stages and will follow at regular intervals. The novella I just released, “Tight Spaces” is Book #1 in the “Double Dare Club” Erotic Romances. I finished outlining #2 in that series last night, so I’ll be writing it over the next few weeks.

But the BIG thing I’m working on now is a Paranormal Romance series. My friend and Critique Partner, Azure Boone, and I are co-writing “The Archangel’s Creed”. Satan has found a loophole in the rules that let him gain an advantage in his battle against Good. In response, the Archangels have to find a way to use the only human power they haven’t tapped into yet to allow them an advantage – romantic love. Each book will be the story of one of the Archangels and his human ‘partners’. We’re not sure when Book One will release, but it’s moving along quickly. Keep watch on my website for more news about the series. I have an excerpt ready to go up in a couple of days.
