On Packing
One of the first things I pack are two alarm clocks. This is absurd as I
have an alarm clock on my phone and all hotels have alarm clocks in each
room and a wakeup-call service. The next thing I pack is an umbrella.
Weather bothers me. Partly because it is unpredictable. And rain really
bothers me. It’s so bad for my hair. As well as my umbrella, I pack a rain
hat. I have an old French Connection rain hat, that I never travel without.
Actually I have four of them, which is just as well as they stopped making
them about ten years ago. They’re not very glamorous but they are effective.
