The Many Residents of Mirabilis

Mirabilis, USA is a small town like many other small towns. Farms. Few police, a dinky little jail. Gossip. One shoe store. Miles of empty land. But there is a difference. Mirabilis is home to The Hammer Building. It stands forty stories, smack dab in the center of town, dwarfing all other buildings. Its design is odd, too. It's an architectural innovation, lookin

g more like a giant robot than a building. The Hammer Building was supposed to be the beginning of a scientific renaissance that never happened. This is Mirabilis, a small town with a monstrous building at its center. At least the town is known for something other than Jack Darby's record-breaking tomato. But soon Mirabilis will be known for something else. A mystery that only Lilith can solve.

That's Mirabilis. A small town with a big-ass building, and many, many secrets.

But who lives there?

Let's meet a few residents.

Lilith Lane. Our Heroine. Strong and smart. She's 17, and sometimes wishes she had more curves. Her dark hair is styled in a Louise Brooks-style silent film star bob. She's pretty, but certainly no super model. She's smart, but no Sherlock Holmes. She turns to jelly around cute boys, and she's not always the best friend. But what Lilith has is determination. When her sister is kidnapped, Lilith will not rest until Beth is back home safely. Lilith never lets fear get in her way. A person could have no better big sister than Lilith Lane.

Beth Lane. The stolen girl. 10 years old and cute as a button. Curly blonde hair, blue eyes, dimples. Her kidnapping will change Lilith's life forever.

Dalton Hammer. Mad scientist. Millionaire. Devious. An affinity for cowboy boots and medical oddities. Questions loom about his missing wife and his role in her disappearance. He might be Lilith's only hope, or her worst nightmare. His secret invention holds the key to saving Beth. But is it a trap?

Thomas Lane. Lilith's dad. Surgeon, father, cheater. He operated on Dr. Hammer's father years earlier to disastrous results.

Heather Lane. Lilith's Mom. Former local beauty queen (Miss Cherry Stem), struggling with her husband's infidelity, and her alcohol addiction.

Daniel. Lilith's boyfriend. He may or may not be cheating on Lilith with Annabelle Potter. Lilith is a virgin, and Daniel is growing impatient. He's a quarterback; he throws a lot of interceptions because he's always staring at the cheerleaders.

Pamela: Lilith's former best friend. Lilith ditched her friend in order to hang with the cool kids. Lilith regrets casting Pam aside, and means to make up for it. Pam has a great capacity for love, but might be a little naive.

Michael. Hammer's assistant. He's nerdy & cute, a lover of snails, and sweet as pie. He's been through a lot, with a large scar on his face to prove it.

Principal Owens. Friend to the Lane family. Suffered horrible abuse as a child, and made it his mission to save other children from similar pain. He's been a father figure for Beth and Lilith.

Kathy Wilkes. Guidance counselor & fashionista. She lost a daughter and feels that pain every day.

Mr. Wilkes. Kathy's husband. A bit of a creepster. All anyone really knows about him is that he claims to receive royalties from a 50's pop song that a relative of his wrote. Despite his weirdness, he does seem to treat Kathy well.

Missy Stanton. Lost the beauty queen title to Lilith's mom and has not let it go. She's kind of a bitch. But pretty.

Derrick Stanton. Childhood friend of Lilith's dad. Husband of Missy. He's a cop, but not a very good one.

These are the people of Mirabilis. They have no idea of the storm that's coming.

Lilith Lane's life is about to change forever. All of her lives.
