So who is this PJ Adams...?

Hmmm... If I'm not too mistaken there might just be some connection between Polly J Adams, author of explicit erotica, and PJ Adams, whose first erotic romance was published in early September. Do you think there might be?

No prizes: there is.

Authors and publishers are often confronted with questions of labelling. Whether to use a pen-name or not?

I write in a variety of genres, and I use different names for most of them. It makes a lot of sense to use a different name for very different kinds of writing: readers of my cookery books might be a bit surprised to find a book like Flash Mob Gangbang, and my erotic romance readers might be surprised to find that Lucy Gets A New Toy is an early reader (not that these are real examples!).

Which is a rather long-winded way of explaining that I've decided that it's worth distinguishing between my full-on smut and my new erotic romance series, The Object of his Desire.

So why not a completely separate pen-name?

While there are definite differences between the audiences for erotica and erotic romance, there's a clear overlap, too. I like to think that someone who enjoys The Object of his Desire could well enjoy my Knee-tremblers and Indulgence series, for instance, a set of eight stories that follow a young woman's journey of sexual exploration and her growing relationship with the wealthy owner of a sex club; it's explicit erotica, but it's also a love story.

So, a thinly disguised pen-name that separates out two strands of my writing, but also allows for a bit of healthy cross-fertilization.

That's the theory, at least!
