MARC'S MEMOS

1/31/10

The Super Bowl will be played on February 7th this year. I have a related story to tell you that happened to me last year in February. It was about 2:15 in the morning when I was startled awake by the urgent ringing of my telephone. I thought it might be a wrong number or a crank call from some drunk at a party. It wasn’t, it was my son-in-law saying he was on the way to the hospital with my daughter. My heart was racing.

It was good news though. My yet-unborn grand daughter had decided it was time to see if she could make things interesting. Still half asleep, I managed to get my shoes on the right feet and join my wife that was already in the car. Off to the waiting room we went.

This is all very mundane to most people, but it just happened to be on the morning of Super Bowl Sunday! Let me make this perfectly clear, the birth of my grand daughter is definitely more important than a football game. However, let me give you a few more details. I live in Phoenix, Arizona and if you know anything about football, we have been the Chicago Cubs of the National Football League. My team is the Arizona Cardinals. They hadn’t won a playoff game since 1947 and their last winning season was in 1975 when they were in St. Louis! So the stakes were a little bit higher. To beat the Pittsburgh Steelers would change the perennial perception of them as long-time losers and become Super Bowl Champions.

As you know, that miracle did not happen on the football field, but a miracle took place in the hospital that day and she is beautiful. She decided to make her debut at 7:07 a.m. and we still had time to see the game.

Until next time, take care! Marc
