Excerpt of WIP
A cute little piece with an interaction between Ryan and his Mama.
Two days of relaxing didn’t stop the dreams of symbols. So far, I figured if the symbols were numbers, I know that I had a zero, six, and five. I assumed that the boxes, if they were numbers, would be an eight. I have not figured out why they were only seen on specific things. First one is light, the second one is wood, the third ones are on plants, and the last was is on water. I started expecting to see them everywhere so I was no longer scared when they did.
Instead, I turned my mind towards my trip to the cave. The pull towards it was getting harder to resist. I had asked Matt if he would like to come with me. At first, he agreed but Jessica finally came around to talking to him. He spent all day with her yesterday. He told me last night. as he was leaving, that he had plans of taking Jess out. The pills that the doc had given her must be working.
Mama was already up in the kitchen when I came down. I heard a male voice so I knew that Dr. Franks was here. I stood in the living room while they chatted. I waited for the perfect time to walk into the kitchen.
“Morning, Mama. Dr. Franks.”
“Morning, sweetie. Are you ready for your vacation?”
“Yes, Ma’am.”
“Good morning, Ryan. Please call me Isaac.”
“Sorry, Isaac, it’s a habit.”
He smiled and then turned back towards Mama. “I must be going to work now. Thank you so much for this wonderful breakfast.”
I watched as Mama blushed as he grabbed her hand and gently kissed the back of it. “I’ll see you tonight, Isaac.”
“Ryan, be careful on your expedition. I don’t want to be the one to tell your mother devastating news.” He nodded and shook my hand.
“I will.”
Dr. Isaac Franks left and Mama started fidgeting. She almost looked like a teenage girl waiting for the day to end so she could rush to her boyfriend’s side. I was genuinely happy for her. I looked at the table and saw just two sets of, already used, plates. I quirked my eyebrows up and Mama shrugged innocently. I burst into laughter.
