On sock puppetry and fake reviews
It goes without saying that I think it's disgraceful to pose as a reader and write fake reviews (and even worse to trash your rivals) but I also wonder where the hell these authors find the time...

Indeed. Really if you can't get a decent review from your real readers either your book doesn't merit it or you simply don't have any. Personally I make my own judgement on a book. I just downloaded a freebie which had a mix one of the 1 star reviews made me laugh so much I had to have a look.
