“Book received from author in exchange for honest review”

How many times have you seen that disclaimer?
And how many times have you dis-believed it?

Admit it, as soon as you see that line in a review, your cynical side jumps to the conclusion that the reviewer must be a friend or relative of the author and whose honest opinion is: I love my friend/relative, know how hard he/she worked on this book, and honestly want to show my support.

Of course, that’s not always the case—I certainly hope that it’s rarely the case—but there’s been more and more talk lately about writers stacking their sites with such reviews.

Samuel Medina I suppose it depends on a lot of things. Some writers have families who hate them, or like me, they're a reclusive loner. As a reader, I don't give much weight to reviews. If the author's blurb gets my attention, I'll read the preview and make my own decision ;)
